What do I need to know?

To begin the registration process and learn more about the process, timelines and benefits of moving to Adyen, please refer to our FAQs online.

This guide will walk you through the registration process itself in more detail.

To begin registration, please login to your Legl account, then click: https://account.legl.com/settings-bank-accounts/

What should I expect from the registration process?

The Adyen onboarding process is split into three Sections.

  1. Company details
  2. Bank account details
  3. Documents to sign‍

Before you begin your registration process, you will see the overview screen like this.

On-screen support and messages will guide you, and also highlight where information is missing or incorrect.

Information you’ve submitted for review to Adyen will be marked as “in review” until Adyen completed its review, which typically takes about a day.

Adyen will email you directly to confirm the completion of your registration, or where there are issues. Legl will also confirm completion of your registration process the same day of your registration.

We will now turn our attention to each step of the payment process.

Section 1A

Company details

To register your account, Adyen needs information about your business

  • Name and country
  • Company structure
  • Registration detail
  • Address

Step 1 - Name and country

Please provide the name exactly as you have registered it with Companies House.

Step 2 - Company structure

Please select the appropriate legal entity type during registration with Adyen that applies to your law firm. The most common legal entities in the UK for law firms are Limited Liability Partnerships (LLPs) and  Limited companies (LTD. For those) please select:

  • LTD = Private Company (option 1)
  • LLP = Incorporated Partnership (option 3)

Step 3 - Registration details

Your trading name might differ from your registered name. For example, you might not include the legal entity type (LLP, LTD) in your client-facing brand, or present your firm under a different name altogether. If so, please clarify your brand or trading name in the “Trading name” field.

If you are presenting your name exactly the same as you have registered it with companies, please tick the box “Same as legal name of the company”.

Your company number is 8 digits long, even if it  starts with 0.

Please include the GB in your VAT number prefix.

Step 4 - Address

Please enter the exact address you have registered with Companies House. We recommend the “Search address” function that works well with your postcode.

If your firm’s headquarter is located at a different address, please select “Yes, our headquarters are at a different location”. You can then add your headquarters address as well.

Step 5 - Summary

You can view and edit any changes for this section before you submit them to Adyen.

Once you are satisfied with your information on display and have hit the “Submit” button, the status of this section will move to “in review”. That means Adyen is reviewing your details and will return their result typically within a day. You will receive a confirmation email from Adyen about the outcome of their review. You can also view the status of this section online.

Section 1B

Decision makers

You will also designate at least one signatory.

Please add one or more decision makers for your firm. One person can have multiple roles.

You will need to add all owners (25% ownership or more), or if that’s not applicable to you then all controlling persons.

You can add one or more decision-makers by clicking on the blue button that reads “+Add decision-maker”

Step 1 - Individual details

You can add the name, personal details and roles of the person you wish to add. For Controlling Persons and Signatories also require a role title. Signatories require email and phone number as well.

You can assign one or multiple roles to the same person.

Step 2 - Address

Please add the personal address of the decision-maker. That is the official address of residence for the person you are adding, not your office address.

Optional - ID Verification

In some cases, Adyen will require further verification of your personal details. If so, then this step usually requires the verification of identity. On-screen steps will clarify what options are available to you depending on the nationality, type of document you choose, and your preferred verification method.

Please note that for identity verification, Adyen offers instant verification via their partner Onfido, alongside a manual verification option to upload photo copies of respective documents.

Instant verification

If you choose to complete this step with an instant verification, you will need the actual person to have access to a mobile phone or tablet (connected to the internet) as well as their ID document. In the UK, that would be a passport or driver’s licence. To begin the process with Onfido, the person completing the IDV check will need to scan a QR Code on screen. Alternatively, you can also get the link via SMS or copy the link to share elsewhere.

Manual upload

If you choose to upload identity documents manually, please share the government issued ID. You can select the available types of document from a drop down depending on the nationality of the decision-maker you’re adding. Only 1 form of ID is required here.

Section 2

Bank account details

Please provide the bank details of every bank account that you would like to receive payments into, e.g. Client and Office account.

Step 1 - Verification method

You can  decide how you wish to provide and verify  your bank details:  via a mobile banking app, or on your computer by uploading bank statements manually.

If you choose to verify your bank account using your mobile banking app or bank website, please follow the instructions on screen. You will require access to the account’s online banking environment. Adyen’s partner “Tink” will complete this process with you instantly.

If you choose to validate your bank account by uploading your bank statement, please select the second option. This process will require manual check by Adyen which may take a few hours or days.

Step 2 - Payout account

Option 1 - mobile banking app or bank website

If you’ve opted to verify instantly via Adyen’s partner Tink, you’ll see this process that will complete all subsequent steps of this section for you. Please choose to “Accept”  to proceed this process online.

Or select “Go back” if you prefer to manually complete this step by uploading your bank statement.

Option 2 - uploading your bank statement

You can manually enter your bank details and upload your bank statement for validation. Please ensure your bank details mirror your account holder name, which is the name you’ve listed as the  name registered with Companies House.

Step 3 - Bank Statement

For manual bank statement upload option only you will need to provide a bank statement.

Select the Bank Statement File type and optionally a name you wish to reference it by.

Optional: Add more bank accounts

You can add additional bank accounts from the once your first bank account has been added. Go to the main page and check out the bank account section.

Before you’ve added your first bank account:

After you’ve added your first bank account - you can add additional accounts by clicking on the text below  “ + Add extra payout account”:

Section 3

Documents to sign

Those become available once you have confirmed your decision makers.

Before you have  confirmed your decision makers:

After you have confirmed your decision makers:

Step 1 - Sign Services Agreement

Your dedicated signatories are able to sign the Adyen Payment Processing Terms via tickbox online. Only 1 signatory is required to sign.

You can view all terms online as part of the application. If you’d like to view or share the Adyen T&C  outside the application process, you can view them online here or download as PDF here.

Once you’ve signed the Payment Processing Terms they will be marked as “signed”.

Step 2 - PCI DSS questionnaire

Your dedicated decision-makers are able to sign the Adyen PCI DSS questionnaire via tickbox online. Only 1 decision-maker  is required to sign.

The PCI DSS questionnaire consists of several statements for you to review and confirm. To make this process easy for you, the questionnaire has already taken into account that your payments will be managed by Adyen via Legl. Each question provides further information and help text should you require clarification on a given statement.

To learn more about PCI and how it relates to your law firm, please refer to our PCI Guide.

What happens after I’ve completed my registration?

We will email you within 1 working day to confirm your registration and remind you of the date we’ll switch over your payments to Adyen. We will then be in touch again on the day of the change to confirm your payments with Adyen.
