Leeds, UK – 15 May 2026 – Blacks Solicitors LLP, one of Leeds’ leading full-service law firms, today announced it has selected Legl’s client lifecycle management platform to power client payments across the firm. The partnership will see Blacks adopt Legl’s platform, replacing its legacy payment stack with a single, purpose-built solution for law firms.
Operating from its head office at City Point in Leeds, Blacks Solicitors has grown into one of the region’s most respected independent firms. Blacks is recognised as a Leading Firm by The Legal 500, a UK Top 200 law firm by The Lawyer, and a World Class Company to Work For by Best Companies.
With 33 partners and more than 250 staff, the firm supports commercial and private clients across practice areas, including Corporate & Commercial, Real Estate, Banking, Dispute Resolution, Employment, Private Wealth & Succession, and Family Law. The firm posted record turnover of £23m in 2025/26, the latest milestone in a period of sustained growth that has seen its headcount rise by nearly a third since relocating to City Point in 2017.
A modern payments foundation for a growing firm
The adoption of Legl follows a firm-wide review of Blacks’ payments infrastructure. Following the retirement of the Barclays ePDQ service, the firm needed a permanent, law-firm-grade solution that could eliminate the reconciliation complexity of a generic payments provider, enforce strict matter and invoice reference validation, and give its finance and credit control teams the controls and visibility required at scale. With over 120 transactions a month being processed through the digital portal, Blacks identified the opportunity to not only replace the legacy service, but to significantly upgrade the overall client payment experience.
Legl was selected for its purpose-built approach for law firms. The platform combines a branded website checkout and branded payment links, multiple payment options including card, Apple Pay and Pay by Bank, automated payment reminders, flexible payment plans, daily gross settlement with no fee netting, and deep integration with the firm’s practice management system. Strict invoice and matter reference controls were a central requirement for Blacks, ensuring that payments are routed and posted correctly the first time.
The rollout will support Blacks’ finance, credit control and IT teams in delivering a more consistent, faster and more secure payment experience to clients across the firm’s practice areas, with particular impact across residential conveyancing and private client work where client payments on account are highest in volume.
Leadership comments
Andrew Mahoney, Head of Finance, Blacks Solicitors, said:
“Blacks has always combined the service quality of a large firm with the agility and independence of a smaller practice. As we continue to grow, we are committed to investing in the technology that supports our people and our clients. Partnering with Legl allows us to modernise a core part of our client experience, how clients pay us, and to do so in a way that is secure, efficient and simple. Legl stood out for its deep understanding of how law firms’ finance functions actually operate, and for the strength of its integration into the systems our teams use every day.”
Lee Fawcett, Legal Accounts Manager, Blacks Solicitors, said:
“We needed a payments platform built for the way a modern law firm works. Legl gives our finance and credit control teams the functionality we’ve been asking for: strict reference validation, gross settlement, branded payment links and a genuinely integrated experience within our Partner for Windows practice management system. For our clients, it means a faster, clearer, and more professional way to pay. It is a significant upgrade on where we’ve been, and the right foundation for where we’re going.”
Julia Salasky, CEO of Legl, commented:
“Blacks Solicitors is exactly the kind of firm we are proud to partner with. They are an award-winning independent practice with real ambition, strong leadership and a clear focus on doing things properly for clients and for teams. Blacks’ decision to invest in a purpose-built platform for law firms reflects the rising bar for what clients and regulators expect from modern firms, and we’re thrilled to support Andrew, Lee, and the wider Blacks team as they build on their record year of growth. We welcome Blacks to the growing community of leading UK law firms using Legl to elevate their approach across the client lifecycle.”
