JCP Solicitors is a full-service Welsh law firm with ten offices across South and West Wales.
In April 2026, the firm implemented Legl’s client lifecycle management platform to consolidate client onboarding and compliance checks within a single structured process. Six months after implementation, the platform was in use across all teams and had become the firm’s default provider for electronic identity verification.
A single process for onboarding and compliance
The implementation was assessed against defined operational objectives: reducing onboarding times, improving completion rates, consolidating activity within one system, supporting a straightforward client experience and providing the compliance team with clear alerts and review information.
The firm rolled Legl out in phases, working with its compliance, operational and legal teams. The aim was a consistent approach to client due diligence across every practice area, covering identity verification, business verification, risk assessments, and PEP and sanctions screening.
Before implementation, the existing onboarding process was mapped to identify requirements, responsibilities and points of escalation.
Legl is now built into the central team's file opening forms, which makes it the firm's default provider for electronic ID verification.
Where a client cannot complete the electronic check, a second workflow asks them for certified ID and stores it in Legl. The firm keeps a complete record for each client in one place.
The platform is now used for enhanced electronic verification and maintains a central audit trail of the information and documents supplied by each client. JCP’s Compliance Director, Natalie Corbi, noted:
“The system provides a clear audit trail of the information and documentation supplied by the client.”
An integrated escalation route has reduced the need to transfer documents and manage queries through separate email chains.
“Escalations can be managed within the platform, which has reduced document downloads, email traffic and administrative handling.”
Since go-live, JCP has continued to develop additional workflows in response to feedback from its legal teams.
“Feedback from the legal teams has informed the development of additional workflows to address specific operational requirements.”
Client onboarding outcomes
Since going live in April 2026, JCP has run 1,000 workflows through Legl, and clients have completed 92.8% of them. The median client response time is 6.3 hours, and 62.3% of client requests are completed within 24 hours.
Clients can complete the process using a laptop, mobile phone or tablet. The number of client queries about completing checks has remained low. Natalie said:
“Clients can complete the verification process across a range of devices, and the number of queries requiring support has reduced."
The process is consistent across devices and provides teams with a standard route for issuing and monitoring requests.
Where a check needs to be repeated, a new request can be issued directly through the platform.
Where a check must be repeated, a replacement request can be issued directly from the platform, reducing additional administrative steps.”
Compliance review and oversight
For PEP and adverse media screening, the platform generates a summary of each result. This enables legal teams to assess straightforward false matches and refer matters requiring further review to Compliance. Natalie said:
“The summaries enable teams to review and filter most results without Compliance involvement. This has reduced referrals to the compliance team by around 90%, allowing the team to focus on matters requiring escalation.”
The median internal review time is 14.7 hours, with completed workflows typically reviewed within one working day.
The provider’s regulatory status was also considered during a recent independent AML audit. The audit highlighted the requirement to use an electronic identity verification provider recognised under the relevant government framework. Natalie said:
“The audit confirmed the importance of using an EVID provider recognised under the relevant government framework. The provider’s status formed part of our assurance assessment.”
Application within commercial teams
Following training in the summer, JCP's commercial teams have begun using Legl's Source of Funds checks. Reviewing the Source of Funds report in June, Natalie said:
“The report provides teams with additional information to support a more structured and efficient review.”
Commercial matters come in smaller numbers than the firm's other work, but Natalie expects each check to save the team time:
“The reporting presents the relevant information clearly and supports timely, informed review by the legal teams.”
Usability and implementation
Usability and the clarity of reporting were key considerations in the firm’s assessment of the platform. Natalie said:
"The platform combines the required functionality with a clear interface for reviewing and reporting information. Information is presented clearly and can be reported without teams having to interpret unnecessarily complex outputs.”
The implementation process was also reviewed against the firm’s previous technology projects:
“The implementation followed a structured process from requirements mapping through to delivery. Roles, timescales and outputs were managed clearly throughout.”
Looking ahead
With every team now onboarding clients through the same process, JCP has a consistent, auditable record for each client, and a compliance team that can focus on the cases that need its attention.
