That Legl flags high risk assessments instantaneously is a huge step forward for MLROs. Getting that email notification lets me act fast. I am no longer relying on human interaction to be alerted of cases I need to focus on.

Frequently asked questions

  • Does Legl include ongoing monitoring for my clients?

Yes, CDD doesn't stop at onboarding. Individual clients are screened continuously against PEPs lists, sanctions lists and hundreds of other data sources, and business clients are monitored for changes to ownership, structure, financials and legal proceedings, with sanctions status reviewed daily. When something changes, Legl raises an alert, notifies your compliance contact and holds the review in one place with a full audit trail. Alerts can be assigned to a named reviewer, and confirmed false positives can be whitelisted so they stop reappearing. Legl's AI-assisted review also weighs the evidence and provides signals whether a flagged record really is your client though the decision stays with your reviewer. A weekly summary email tells your MLRO exactly where the firm stands.

  • Can automatic escalation paths be built into Legl?

Yes, Risk Rules applies your firm's own risk policy to every client automatically, including escalating certain high-risk clients or matters to the relevant stakeholders in your firm. And where a Risk Assessment identifies a high-risk factor, it can be escalated automatically, with an email to your MLRO or other nominated reviewers and the assessment queued for their review. Reassessment dates can be set by risk level too, so high-risk matters come round for review sooner.

  • How does Source of Funds checks work?

You send a Source of Funds request and your client completes it through a secure link. Legl supports both individual clients in residential property matters, and corporate / commercial teams with more complex source of funds matters. Your client provides information about their source their funds, then evidence it either by connecting their bank account securely through open banking, or by uploading relevant documentation. Legl's AI reads the statements, parses and structures the data, and enables a faster review experience for your teams. Where a transaction looks unusual, Legl asks the client to explain it automatically, so the answer arrives with the submission rather than costing your team an email exchange. You get an in-product review with the important things first, a report for the file, and the results feed straight into your risk assessments.

  • Is Legl on the DVS register?

Yes. Legl is listed on the UK government's Digital Verification Services register, maintained by the Office for Digital Identities and Attributes, under our registered name The Justice Platform Ltd. Legl is a certified Identity Service Provider against the government's Digital Identity and Attributes Trust Framework (DIATF).

  • Can firms select different levels of ID verification?

Yes you can choose the type of CDD that is appropriate for different client or matters types in line with your firm's risk policy.. Standard CDD covers ID document validation, biometric verification, identity validation, watchlist screening and financial checks. Enhanced CDD reads the chip inside a client's biometric passport by NFC for a higher level of assurance. Dual-ID CDD collects and verifies two documents against a single selfie. In-person CDD covers clients you're meeting face to face etc.

  • How does Legl support KYB?

Search for a company and Legl pulls registry data, generates a company report covering ownership, directors, financials, credit rating and filings, and runs sanctions screening against the business. From the report you can see the full structure including directors, PSCs, shareholders including indirect holdings, parent entities and group structure. You can filter the org chart to holdings above 25% to identify UBOs, and screen everyone in the structure in a single action rather than one person at a time. Business clients can be sent digital workflows like any other client, linked to one another to represent group and holding relationships, and kept under ongoing monitoring for the lifecycle of the relationship. Every step is recorded on the business record, so the audit trail builds itself.

  • Does Legl cover international companies?

Yes. Company searches are supported across a wide range of international markets, not just the UK. How much detail comes back varies by jurisdiction, and a small number of territories aren't supported at all. With Legl's client-facing workflows that give the ability to share custom forms, request documents like articles of incorporation or lists of directors, it's straightforward for your firm to gather the relevant information from the client with a simple digital experience.

  • What are Risk Assessments?

Legl can digitise your client and matter risk assessments in line with your firm's policies and risk appetite. Templates are built to your own policy including your questions, your weighting, your ratings etc so the assessment reflects how your firm assesses risk rather than a generic model. Legl pulls through information that it already holds to auto-populate sections for fee-earners, including the date of the last CDD check, sanctions and PEP results, whether the client is in a high-risk country, and whether a Source of Funds check was completed and what it found. High-risk factors are identified automatically and escalated for review, decisions and overrides are recorded with the reasoning, and reassessment dates can be scheduled by risk level.

  • Do MLROs have dedicated dashboards in Legl?

Yes, Legl's Compliance dashboard gives a firm-wide view of CDD, AML and audit history for every individual and business client, with filters to surface what needs attention and downloadable reports for internal review or audit preparation. The Compliance overview brings the firm's live risk signals into one screen, and risk assessment reporting gives visibility of escalations and upcoming reassessment dates. A weekly monitoring summary email lands with your chosen compliance contacts every Monday.

  • How can I easily see high risk clients?

Legl's Compliance overview puts your high-risk clients on one screen: confirmed and unconfirmed PEP matches, confirmed and unconfirmed sanctions matches, clients with a high-rated risk assessment, clients based in high-risk jurisdictions, and requests that have been outstanding for 30 days or more — each as a count you can click into. You can export the flagged contacts as a CSV for regulatory or internal reporting. The Risk Assessments dashboard can also be filtered by risk rating and escalation status, and higher-risk signals from identity checks like fraud database hits, compromised document flags etc are surfaced first in the CDD review experience.
