Coleman Greig Lawyers

Sydney, Australia – 8 May 2026 – Coleman Greig Lawyers, one of Greater Western Sydney’s largest and most established law firms, has selected Legl’s client lifecycle management platform to build and manage its firm-wide anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing (AML/CTF) compliance programme. The partnership positions Coleman Greig ahead of Australia’s landmark Tranche 2 reforms, which will bring law firms and other professional service providers into scope of the AML/CTF Act from 1 July 2026.

Coleman Greig, which has grown over nearly a century to become one of Sydney’s leading midsized law firms, has offices across Greater Western Sydney including its Head Office in Parramatta, as well as offices in Norwest, the Sydney CBD, Penrith and Campbelltown-Macarthur. Serving commercial and personal clients across a broad range of practice areas including commercial services, litigation and dispute resolution, employment solutions, property services, tax and superannuation, family law, wills and estates and conveyancing, the firm identified that the vast majority of its services will be designated under Tranche 2, making a robust, firm-wide AML/CTF programme a priority.

A board-mandated response to Tranche 2

The adoption of Legl follows a board-mandated project to prepare Coleman Greig for its new obligations as a reporting entity under the AML/CTF Act. From 1 July 2026, lawyers providing designated services will be required to identify, assess and document money laundering and terrorism financing risks across their business, implement risk-based compliance programmes, conduct customer due diligence, and report suspicious matters to AUSTRAC. With the deadline approaching, Coleman Greig sought a purpose-built technology solution to deliver these requirements efficiently and consistently across the firm.

Legl’s platform was selected for its end-to-end approach to AML/CTF compliance, combining streamlined client onboarding, identity verification (KYC), business verification (KYB), ultimate beneficial owner (UBO) resolution, risk assessments, PEPs and sanctions screening, proof of address, trust deed analysis, and ongoing monitoring, all within a single, integrated solution. Legl’s client lifecycle management platform capabilities are enabling Coleman Greig to build a compliance programme that is both comprehensive and simple for lawyers and clients to use in practice.

“The Tranche 2 reforms represent a significant change for Australian law firms, and we knew we needed a solution that would grow with us as the regulatory landscape continues to evolve. What stood out about Legl was the ability to bring identity verification, risk assessments, ongoing monitoring and compliance oversight together in one place, in a way that is practical for our lawyers and clients to work with day to day. We wanted a programme built around our firm, not off-the-shelf complexity, and Legl delivered exactly that.”

Consistency and efficiency across a growing firm

Beyond regulatory compliance, Coleman Greig identified the Tranche 2 moment as an opportunity to standardise and modernise client onboarding processes across the entire firm. The existing approach relied on a mix of legacy tools and manual processes, with client identity checks handled inconsistently across practice areas. Legl will replace this approach with a single, streamlined client onboarding workflow that gives every team a consistent, documented process and provides the firm’s compliance function with real-time visibility and audit-ready records.

The rollout spans Coleman Greig’s full range of designated services, with the property team (one of the firm’s most active practices) among the first areas to go live on Legl’s platform. Legl’s usage-based commercial model was also an important factor in the firm’s selection, providing flexibility during the initial rollout period and the ability to pass client due diligence costs through to clients where appropriate.

“Coleman Greig is exactly the kind of firm that Legl was built for: a full-service, leading practice with deep roots in its community and a genuine commitment to doing compliance properly. The 1 July deadline is focusing minds across the Australian legal sector, and we’re proud to be supporting Coleman Greig as they build an AML/CTF programme that will not only meet their regulatory obligations but improve the experience for their clients and their teams from day one. We welcome them to the growing community of law firms across Australia and the UK using Legl to manage the full client lifecycle.”
