Tell us about yourself!
I am a Yorkshire girl who moved to ‘the wrong side of the Pennies’ about 6 years ago. I love good food, good wine and I’m a little bit (a lot) dog crazy! On the side I’m a keen runner and an avid reader.
With a decade and a half of experience in the software sales industry (predominantly within the legal sector), I feel very lucky to be part of the Legl journey as we continue to evolve and grow.
Could you describe your role?
As a Senior Account Executive at Legl, I spend the vast majority of my time speaking to law firms about the benefits and value that our platform provides. We have a super collaborative approach which means I am in constant liaison with our Product and Customer Success teams to ensure we are delivering best in class technical solutions and experience to our ever growing client base.
What excited you about joining Legl?
From the very beginning, Legl had impressed me with their ambition and agility – it was evident that everybody at Legl truly understood the importance of our impact. The pace at which we respond to the changing market demands from law firms continues to amaze me. The legal industry is ever evolving and our teams are focused on ensuring we provide products which address the pain points of law firms.
How has your experience been working within a company with strong female leadership?
It’s amazing that Legl has such strong female representation but, in truth, they’re great leaders regardless of their gender! One of my favourite quotes is from Sheryl Sandberg: “In the future, there will be no female leaders. There will just be leaders.” Having said that, ‘you can’t be what you can’t see’ so hopefully it will encourage even more female talent into the business.
What has been the most enjoyable aspect of your Legl experience?
Without a doubt – the people. I am surrounded by ambitious people, who are all genuinely passionate about changing the face of legal technology for the better. Our opinions are valid in guiding our growth and the culture is built that you can impact the business from any of our teams.
What does being a woman in tech mean to you?
I don’t necessarily categorise myself as a ‘woman in tech’. More important to me is the fact that tech is an exciting, progressive industry to work in. Software is constantly evolving, which means I’m constantly learning and developing myself.
Legal, tech and sales are all male dominated. The biggest challenge probably came at the start of my career when I felt I had to constantly prove I was as knowledgeable and as credible as my male counterparts. I can honestly say this isn’t something that even crosses my mind anymore!
What advice would you give for women looking to follow in your footsteps in SaaS?
If you’re ambitious and have a drive to succeed, SaaS sales is a very rewarding and satisfying career. You very much make your own luck – the harder you work, the luckier you get! There has historically been lot’s of talk about a ‘glass ceiling’ but my only experience of this is when it’s been self imposed. The best advice I can give is – believe in yourself and your abilities, and put in the hard work to get to where you need to be – never stop learning about your product, your market and building relationships.
