Meet the Legl Team: Oisin McAvinchey, Legal Partnerships Associate

In this instalment of the Meet the Legl Team series, we chatted with Oisin McAvinchey, who has been at Legl for eight months and works on the Sales team as Legal Partnerships Associate.

Tell us a bit about yourself!

I am from County Louth in Ireland which is just North of Dublin City. I studied Law in Maynooth University and then went on to do a Masters in Business at University College Cork. My mother is an entrepreneur and it was her career that geared me towards business and away from a legal career. I have now landed at Legl and am still working from home in Ireland which allows for a few trips across the pond to meet the team every once in a while, which is a nice change of scenery.

Why did you choose to join Legl?

Legl was the obvious next step for me. As a company starting out with the room to put my own stamp on our processes and with the excitement of fast growth, I knew this was a challenge I wanted to take. From my first call with a member of Legl, it just clicked. The honest, open, friendly and excitable approach to work life was something I just gravitated towards. Almost 8 months in and I feel the same, if not more so today.

What does a typical day look like for you?

My day always starts with catching up with my team. Lauren, our VP of Legal Partnerships, is the leader of the pack and is always a ball of energy that you can attach to every morning, even on a dark December morning when prospects are on holidays! The senior guys on the team are pros, so in this daily chat I try to soak in as much of their experience as possible. The rest of my morning consists of research, writing thoughtful and personal emails to prospective customers and 3 cups of coffee. After lunch then, we’re hitting the phones. The junior end of the team I work with are all capable and collaborative and together we have banter with an element of healthy competition. If we were the Beatles, Emeka (another Legal Partnerships Associate) would be McCartney because he sings between every cold call – that’s one way to do it.

What’s the most interesting project you’ve had at Legl?

We ran a video campaign on the partnerships team before Christmas where we had to communicate 50% through videos with prospects. This was a fun way to interact with people on a visual and more personal level. As Legl is a firm-branded product, I loved to get the instant reaction of a firm when they see their own logo and branding live on our platform.

What’s your favourite part of the job?

Speaking to people, 100%. I am annoyingly talkative and a job where my main objective is to speak with people all day every day makes working easy. I will talk to anybody and everybody, even if they don’t want to talk to me!

What’s it really like to work at Legl?

Legl is the definition of a modern company. We are remote first, so everybody has much more freedom with their travel and time. The culture across the company focuses on kindness and agility. This is brought to life with our open channels of communication and the commitment to solve a colleague’s problem anyway we can. Finally, the collaboration element of Legl is second to none. Technically, I am on the partnerships team, but I cannot say enough how everyone works together so well that we consistently feel like one single team.

What changes have you seen since starting to work at Legl?

Since I joined, the Legl team has grown with fantastic people coming on board. Everyone has also gotten much busier as we continue to acquire amazing customers, so change is only a good thing!

How have you grown personally and professionally since joining Legl?

Not only have I seen improvements in my work life, the confidence I have gained at Legl have spilled into my personal life too. Professionally, I feel like I have sharpened my key skills but also learned so many new skills too.

What advice would you give someone who wanted to get into a sales role?

If you want to get into a role like mine you only need three things: a good attitude, a willingness to change, and the ability to recognise when something isn’t working and needs to be reviewed.

What do you like to do outside of work?

Outside of Legl I am a major rugby fan so I get to travel to games at the weekend around the country. I also am a keen reader, gym goer and culinary enthusiast!
